Imran Ali Malik is a vocalist and guitarist in the Pakistani-American Punk band The Kominas (Punjabi for “Scumbags”) recently started an artist collective / record label called Poco Party, which currently is promoting and putting out music from The Kominas & Philadelphia-based country punk band, Sunny Ali & The Kid.

Imran was born in Los Angeles, raised in Princeton, NJ, but after the 9/11 attacks & the subsequent “War on Terror” started when he was in the 12th grade, he decided to pursue a degree in Medicine in the country of his parents birth, Pakistan.  He was a 3rd year medical student in Islamabad, Pakistan in 2005 when a devastating earthquake destroyed entire cities, cost countless lives, injured many and left a sizable population of people homeless.  For the next 6th months, Imran traveled to far cities in Pakistan to volunteer his efforts to help treat disaster victims.  Even though still a student, he was performing difficult emergency operations, under the guidance of volunteer doctors from the U.S., because of the overwhelming nature of the disaster.

After graduating med school in 2008, Imran left medicine to pursue a career in music and the arts but was able to use his medical relief experience to volunteer again in Haiti after the 2009 earthquake.
